by Cameron Cash (@thecameroncash)

It’s pretty much an endless summer in LA, but these days it’s actually summer everywhere, and that means ROAD TRIP!

5 Spots (& Jams) For The Ultimate Cali Roadtrip

Spanning 840 miles of the United States west coast and multiple climates, Cali is a roadtrippers dream! In mere hours, you can be in a new city or hiking in the mountains or poolside in the desert. Basically, exploring California is magic. Checkout our south-to-north short list of places to stop and explore the golden state, complete with the #1 thing that makes every road trip epic: a soundtrack.

Ojai

Ojai

Soundtrack: “Land Slide” by Ruby Vidor (Fleetwood Mac cover)

Less than 2 hours from Los Angeles is the sleepy town of Ojai. Often known as a haven for LA hippies and creatives, this little town is packed with hiking, spas, galleries, and is surrounded by some of the best wine country in the world. Take a stroll along Ojai Avenue for some great shopping and photo opps, and be sure to stop at Bart’s Books, the self proclaimed “best outdoor bookstore in the world.” You might even spot Lissie or Jake Gyllenhaal, both of whom have homes in Ojai.

The Madonna Inn

Soundtrack: “Channel Z” by the B-52s

Head northeast from Ojai to this whimsical hotel located in the heart of central California. Offering 110 themed-out guest rooms like the Caveman or the Madonna Suite, the Madonna Inn also offers amenities that include a spa, 2 award winning dining experiences and horseback riding. Be sure to select your room in advance and consider packing some choice looks to live out all of your Instagram dreams.

Big Sur

Big Sur

Soundtrack: “Waves” by MrProbz

The ultimate destination for nature lovers, Big Sur is often called a state of mind rather than a destination for those who have been. Be sure to do your research on directions, hikes and places to stay before you get there as cell reception can be spotty at best. For some late night adventure, try night bathing at the Esalen Institute, but note that Esalen does not reopen until July 28th.

San Francisco

San Francisco

Soundtrack: “Fugee La” by The Fugees

Similar to Manhattan, San Francisco is a very compact and walkable city. Not only that, but it also has the cultural offerings of a metropolis combined with the laid-back vibes of California. Check out the Summer Of Love Experienceat the De Young Museum (until August 8th) or take a hike to Twin Peaks for major views of the city. Word to the wise – take all of your valuables out of the car for this stop of the trip

The Redwoods

The Redwoods

Soundtrack: “Holding On For Life” by Ellie Goulding

Spanning 53,000 acres, Humboldt Redwoods State Park has the largest forest of old growth redwoods on the planet! With over 100 miles of trails, fishing, swimming and camping – this is the perfect way to end your road trip. Commune with nature that is thousands of years old and reflect on your adventure through California. There is no other place like it.
